Facebook launches timeline for pages

All Facebook pages can now switch to a timeline view. The pages will be given 30 days for curation, and on 30th March, timeline will be forced on all pages.

There are additional new features apart from being able to use a cover photo.

> Posts can be pinned to top of the feed, for one week.

> Receive and reply to private messages from users.

And of course the ability to feature a post on the timeline, just like on a personal timeline.

If you want to make a cover for your timeline, the dimensions are 851 pixels wide and 315 pixels tall.

There’s also a new admin panel

Facebook also has some rules, for what can be used as a cover photo –

Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide and may not contain:

  • Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
  • Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
  • References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
  • Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”
There is one known draw-back, though. The welcome tab has been removed, so you can’t get people to like your page. As the rules above state, you can’t ask them to do so on the cover photo either. 🙁
